clash in semis today

Negros Occidental and Team Biscocho Haus-Iloilo rekindle their bittersweet rivalry today when they clash for a finals seat in the PFF-National Men's Open Championships at the ballfield of Barotac Nuevo town.

Defending champion National Capital Region battles newcomer Northern Cotabato, shortly after the 1:30 p.m. encounter between the regional rivals.

Negros coach Freddie Lazarito said he wants his to battle Iloilo for a place in the finals.

Nine squads are aiming to bring home the overall championship in the elementary and secondary levels of the revived Negros Occidental Track and Field Association Age-Group Athletics Competition that takes centerstage today at the Escalante Central School Oval in Escalante City.

Trinity Christian School, Bacolod Tay Tung High School, Himamaylan City, ATLETA, and Escalante City-A and B are vying for the elementary boys' crown, while squads jousting for the elementary girls' title are TCS, Tay Tung, Escalante City-A and B, Silay City and ATLETA.

Athletes from Trinity, BTTHS, Silay City-A and B, Victorias City, Himamaylan City, ATLETA and Escalante City are eyeing championships in the secondary boys and girls' divisions.

PFF Congress today

ILOILO CITY -The stakeholders of Philippine football gather here today in a Congress that is designed to set fresh initiatives for the sport's development and strengthen unity among its leaders.

Participating in the Philippine Football Federation congress at Iloilo Grand Hotel are some 60 presidents, including Negros Occidental FA's Rep. Charlie Cojuangco, and secretaries general as well as the PFF's 12-member Board of Governors who are also meeting among themselves.

In a press release, PFF secretary general Domeka Garamendi said the congress' principal agenda focuses on several amendments to the PFF constitution and by laws, particularly those suggested by FIFA, the sport's world governing body. Garamendi said FIFA has recommended that the PFF by laws be amended "to insure the neutrality of the sport."
