BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

St. John's Institute and University of St. La Salle hope to register wins against each other today when they collide in the aspirants and elementary boys' title showdowns of the NOPSSCEA basketball tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

St. John's and USLS will battle for the elementary boys' crown at 3:15 p.m., while their aspirants boys' squad will take on each other in the championship game at 4:30 p.m.

The tandem of Allen Dionela and Jadd Gonzales are expected to lead the SJI elementary boys' team, while La Sallians James Anthony Golez and Lester Lloyd Laya will most likely pace their squad.

Point guard Luis Alfonso dela Paz and Timothy Dumancas are expected to provide the offensive power for the Troy Sarabia-mentored USLS aspirants cagers, while the triumvirate of Raymund Lacson, Mark Uy and Brian Coo will most likely carry the cudgels for St. John's.

The Baby Stingers are expected to get the upper hand in the aspirants title clash as they posted an 84-45 demolition over SJI during their elimination-round encounter.

The semifinals of the boys' 10-Under category is also set at the same venue today with SJI-A facing USLS at 8 a.m. before Bacolod Tay Tung High School plays Mansilingan Christian Academy at 9 a.m. The winners in the semifinals will tussle for the title at 2 p.m., while the losers will battle for third place honors at 1 p.m.

BTTHS will collide with University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos at 10 a.m. for third place in the elementary division, while the aspirants team of Tay Tung will take on MCA at 11 a.m. for second runner-up honors in the category. *CIT
