'People power won't topple GMA'
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Maraņon yesterday said he does not think a people power revolution similar to what happened at EDSA 20 years ago will topple President Gloria Macapagagal Arroyo.

The people power revolution then was a spontaneous reaction and concerted effort of the people, he said.

Today the players and the situation are different, he said.

The people are no longer interested in toppling the county's leader because they have lost faith in seeking alternatives, he said.

This is because the people, through the years, have experienced many unfulfilled promises despite changes in leadership, that is why today they would rather just go on with their lives, he said.

So let us just pray that Presdient Gloria Arroyo finishes her term and things get better for the people, he said.

In Cebu City Wednesday night President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo vowed that she will not break her oath to serve the Filipino people until the end of her term in 2010.

Speaking at the celebration of the 69th Charter Day of Cebu City held at the Cebu City Sports Complex, the President said the trend in the ongoing recount of the votes cast for vice president in Cebu showed no indication of irregularities in the 2004 elections.*CPG
