The Beach Volleyball Association of the Philippines was formally
organized Wednesday night as part of the National Beach Volleyball
Referee Course Congress at the Pilapil Hall of La Salle Greenhills
in Ortigas, Mandaluyong City.
Appointed as the president and managing director of BVAP, respectively,
were Roger Banzuela and Rustico Camangian, who mentored the men
and women's beach volleyball squads of the Philippine Team during
the 23rd Southeast Asian Games last year. Banzuela, who also serves
as the president of the Philippine Volleyball Federation, said that
the 26 beach volleyball referees from Bacolod, Cebu , Baguio, Leyte
, Batangas and Metro Manila who attended the congress appointed
him and Camangian.
The other set of officers of the newly formed association will
be appointed this month, Banzuela said, adding that he is still
asking for recommendations from the country's beach volleyball
referees to assign the best people for the job.
Among the projects planned by BVAP are establishing beach
volleyball centers in Bacolod, Cebu, Davao, Manila and Northern
Luzon, and conducting coaching and officiating seminars, Banzuela
said.
BVAP is also planning to hold summer training camps for the
youth, create a beach volleyball talent identification program,
and form a marketing committee that will be in-charge of fund-raising
projects, he added.
Banzuela and Camangian are also among the resource speakers
in the on-going congress as well as referee committee head Vic Abalos
and international referees Efren Gaa, Philip Sison and Bobby Viray.
BVAP aims to promote and develop the sports that Filipinos have
the potential to excel in, but their skills not maximized because
of lack of support, Banzuela said. *CIT
