Brgy. 1 posts two victories

The Barangay 1 Stingers opened their campaign in style by posting two victories in the Mayor Rodrigo G. Chua Memorial Cup basketball tournament at the Sipalay City Gym recently.

The Brgy. 1 cagers beat the Brgy. 2 Tigers in the opening game of the 21-Under division, 91-80, before its team in the open category demolished Cauayan, 113-86.

Brgy. Gil Montilla also registered a triumph in the 21-Under division after trouncing Brgy. Canturay Providers, 76-64.

The basketball tournament, which is supported by the Sipalay City local government that is headed by Mayor Oscar Montilla Jr., is part of the city's charter day anniversary celebration, Rolando "Jack" Maraņon, regional commissioner of the Basketball Association of the Philippines, said.

University of St. La Salle-Integrated School is also competing in the 21-Under division, while other squads participating in the open category are Brgy. 5 Aloha, Kabankalan and the collegiate team of USLS.

Also included in the calendar of events of Sipalay's charter day celebration set March 21 to 25 are beach volleyball, indoor volleyball and 3-on-3 basketball hostilities, Maraņon said. *CIT
