in theft of water meters

The spate of thefts of water meters in consumer residences, recently has led the Dumaguete City Water District to suspect an attempt to sabotage its operation.

Esperatu Dicen, DCWD manager, who expressed alarm over the thefts that reached 25 cases in a span of 10 days, also said he believes the culprits use an instrument that fits the meter gadget made of brass.

Eleven thefts have been recorded and these were in barangays Balugo, Bagacay, Camanjac, Cantil-e, Batinguel, Talay, Cadawinoan and Poblacion, all in Dumaguete City.

The Oriental Negros government is awaiting the go-signal from the Department of Budget and Management for the P1,000 increase in the cost of living allowance for Capitol employees.

Gov. George Arnaiz assured the employees that the amount will be released as soon as they get the guidelines from the DBM in Manila.

He also assured the provincial health workers that they will receive 50 percent of their hazard pay as provided under the Magna Carta for health workers.

Province to construct
60 hotel rooms
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Gov. George Arnaiz said he welcomes moves of local businessmen to construct additional hotels in Dumaguete City, while the provincial government is complementing this with plans to construct at least 60 hotel rooms near the convention center.

Arnaiz said a local caterer hopes to construct a hotel in Dumaguete and Bethel Guest House is also expanding with 16 rooms, among others.

The governor made it clear, though, that the provincial government is not competing with local businessmen. It is merely complementing and solving half of the problem, aside from raising revenues for the provincial government, he said.
