Four days after a female jogger fought off two hold-uppers in
Barangay Banilad, Dumaguete City, another woman repeated the feat
Tuesday noon by after fighting off two men and forcing them to leave
their getaway motorcycle and she also got back her bag back.
Epifania Eustace, 48, of Cavite province but residing at NORECO
2 Road in Barangay Mangnao, told the police that, before the incident,
at about 11 a.m. Tuesday she was inside the Awayan Marketing at
San Juan Street to visit her manager-friend.
Eustace said that, while she was talking with her friend,
she placed her bag containing a Panasonic cellphone worth P3,000
and two ATM cards on a table.
Minutes after, she said, an unidentified man entered the office,
grabbed her bag and ran out. She lost no time in chasing the culprit,
and caught him by the shirt as he was about to leave on board a
motorcycle where he had a waiting companion.
After getting hold of her bag, she grappled with the snatcher,
causing the motorcycle to fall, resulting in bruises on her body.
Scared, the two ran away, leaving the motorcycle.
At the police station, Eustace recognized the two men from
character photographs and police identified them as Ryan Martinez,
27, single, of Brgy. Bagacay and owner of the motorcycle, and Ray
Villamor, 24, single, of Brgy. Tinago.
Police said both men have been charged and arrested last year
for theft but are out on bail.
Less than four hours later, police armed with a warrant of arrest
issued by acting Presiding Judge Fe Lualhati Bustamante of the Regional
Trial Court Branch 37 arrested Villamor in Tinago. Up to press time
yesterday, however, Martinez was still at-large.*RG
