Police file charges for
counterfeit bills

BY DONALYN GUERRERO

The Bacolod police yesterday filed charges before the City Prosecutor's Office against a 32-year-old Bacoleņo who was arrested in the act of producing counterfeit bills in his residence at Purok Kapawa, Brgy. Punta Taytay in Bacolod City Sunday morning.

Insp. Adonis Rosales, Police Precinct 10 commander, yesterday told the DAILY STAR in a phone interview, that they filed charges for violations of section 3, Articles 168 and 169 of the Revised Penal Code, or forging and illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes and other instruments of credit, against Renie Boy Esnaldo, 32.

Esnaldo was arrested by the Bacolod police in the act of re-touching a P500 bill in his residence, Rosales said. He added that the suspect attempted to evade arrest and this resulted in a commotion that caused an injury to Police Precinct 2 commander Insp. Levy Pangue.

Rosales said a police asset confirmed that Esnaldo has been a member of the "Bungot gang", who reportedly finances other persons to cheat and conduct illegal activities inside the derby centers.

The paraphernalia recovered from Esnaldo's residence were a calculating checking machine with magnet indicator, bottle and tubes of paste, assorted pens and pencils, toothpicks, a lampshade, pain brushes and fake P500, P200, P100 and P50, Rosales said.

Earlier, a storeowner complained against Arnold Serenio who bought a cigaret pack from her store with a fake P500 bill. Insp. Levy Pangue, Police Precinct 2 commander, who was also at the store, arrested Serenio who later pinpointed Esnaldo as the producer of the fake bills. Esnaldo is still detained in the lock-up cell of Police Precinct 10.*DMG
