5 persons stabbed

Five persons were wounded in stabbing incidents in Bacolod City Monday and yesterday, police reports said.

Stanley Gonzales Lanita, 25, single, of Pedrosa Subdivision, Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City, was rushed to the Bacolod Sanitarium and Hospital with stab wounds in his back and head, allegedly inflicted by about six persons at the Goldenfields Commercial Complex in Brgy. Singcang, Bacolod City at about 12:30 a.m. yesterday.

Police reports said Lanita was drinking in the area when his assailants identified as Joseph Tahan, 22, Mat Anthony De Paula, 23, Joemar Pito-an, 23, Mark Cerna, 20, Rafael Villauna, 23 and Ronnie Guardavilla, all of Bacolod City reportedly mauled and stabbed him.

Recovered from the scene were an improvised firearm, locally known as "sumpak", and a deformed belt knife. The six were detained in the lock-up cell of Police Precinct 8.

At about 10:30 a.m. yesterday, Glory Vick Escanilla Cordero, 37, married, of Bangga Totong, Cubay, Brgy. Felisa was stabbed with a 6-inch kitchen knife in the left arm allegedly by her neighbor Jonalyn Tubigan, 27.

Cordero was confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital while her assailant is in police custody, reports said. Also rushed to the CLMMRH was Arnold Sarita Caballero, 19, with stab wounds in his arms and right foot, allegedly inflicted by a still unidentified person at about 5:40 p.m. Monday in the barangay.

Caballero who was believed to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor, was creating alarm and scandal when his assailant approached him and stabbed him, police reports said.

At about 10:30 p.m. Monday, Bendicto Sarita, 29, of Sitio Caticlan, Inayawan, Cauayan and temporarily residing at Jimena Street, Brgy. Mansilingan in Bacolod City was brought to CLMMRH with stab wounds in his right arm and leg allegedly inflicted by three unidentified persons in the barangay, police reports said.

Senior Insp. Edel Jose Manzano, Police Precinct 1 commander told the DAILY STAR yesterday, Sarita's assailants were members of the "Tribal" gang, a fraternity group composed of out-of-school youths. Manzano said their investigation showed that Sarita's assailants, whose names were being withheld by the police so not to hamper investigation, had mistaken the victim as a companion of a certain "Michael" with whom they had previous misunderstanding.

Meanwhile, Rodymar Villanuea Yanson, 18, single, of Peso Street, Thass II, Brgy. Taculing was stabbed allegedly by an unidentified person as he was standing in front of the Tinapay Express bakery in Brgy. Taculing at about 8:45 p.m. Monday.

Reports said John Villanueva and an unidentified companion passed Yanson and his companion approached Yanson and stabbed him with an unidentified bladed weapon.

Yanson was rushed to the Bacolod Sanitarium and Hospital and was later transferred to Riverside Medical Center, police reports said.*DMG
