Province pledges assistance
for Leyte landslide victims
BY ROMY AMARADO

The Oriental Negros Provincial government will donate about P500,000 to the victims of the landslide in St. Bernard, Southern, Leyte.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved Tuesday the request of Gov. George Arnaiz for the donation.

In his letter to the SP, the governor said, "The tragedy had caused untold miseries not only to the families of those buried under the mud and debris and to the local government unit, but also to rest of the humankind." "A disaster of such magnitude requires our all-out support and assistance," he added.

Provincial Board Member Arturo Umbac, who sponsored the resolution, said everybody should help, no matter how small the amount is.

He said the province could have donated more if it had enough money. Board Member Leah Ga Bromo said the province should help, no matter how small the amount is.

Provincial Administrator Marilou Kho said the amount will be taken from the calamity fund of the province.*RA
