Sex is easy to talk about, but love is difficult.
This, said Dr. Margarita "Margie" Holmes-Baer, was the reason
why she conducted an interactive forum dubbed "UNCENSORED: Love,
Sex and then some…" at the Gallaga Theatre of the University of
St. La Salle in Bacolod City yesterday.
Love is hard to discuss because everyone is so different that
it is difficult to find some truism that fits most of us, while
the "plumbing" is the same when it comes to love-making, Holmes-Baer,
a clinical psychologist and author, said.
The forum yesterday was the first of a series of interactive
fora to be conducted by Holmes-Baer.
She will hold another interactive forum at the same venue
at 4 p.m. today dubbed "BEYOND LECTURE: Life, Sex and Hot Picks"
for teachers, and for students she will talk on the "SPICED UP:
Family, Love and Sex" forum at 5 p.m. tomorrow.
Holmes-Baer said that based on clinical studies and researches,
the sexual problems of people may be caused by their manifestations
or origin. She also said the psychological causes of sexual problems
may be interpersonal or intrapersonal.
Holmes-Baer also said that researchers and psychologists have
yet to find the causes of homosexuality, which is very rampant.
She claimed that 10 percent of a place's population is gay
but added that "what is important is how you love a person, but
not her sexuality."
The series of inter-active fora, which is co-organized by the
Psychology Department and the Psychological Society of USLS, is
in line with the celebration of the psychology month called "Appreciating
Life through the World of Psychology."*CIT
