University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and Bacolod Tay Tung
High School shared the spotlight Saturday as they ruled their respective
categories in the NOPSSCEA 10-Under athletics competitions at the
UNO-R Oval in Bacolod City.
Recoletos grabbed five golds and three bronzes to reign supreme
in the girls' division, while BTTHS took four golds, three silvers
and one bronze to rule the boys' category.
Ingrid Rendaje spearheaded UNO-R's campaign as she claimed
all of the five golds for the Recoletos tracksters, while Lawrence
Sioson snatched three gold medals to power Tay Tung's bid.
Rendaje clocked in 16.40 seconds to snare the gold in the
100-meter sprint, beating Shieva Canuday of St. John's Institute
(17.06 sec) and Patricia Diamante of University of St. La Salle
(18.57 sec).
Rendaje also posted top honors in the 200-m with a time of
34.04 sec., before winning the 300-m race in 52.97 sec. Aside from
her three individual golds, the UNO-R standout also led her squad
to victories in the 4x100-m and 8x50-m mixed relays.
Other gold medallists in the girls' division were Canuday
when she topped the 50-m and 75-m spritns and La Sallians Kimberly
Zulueta, Danielle Millanes and Caryl Dela Cruz who emerged triumphant
in the long jump, shot put and baseball throw events, respectively.
Sioson began his bid with a victory in the 300-m after timing
in at 52.83 sec., ahead of SJI's Martin Anggana (55.49 sec) and
Ian Jasper Lopez of USLS (55.78 sec). Sioson also anchored the gold
medal win of his team in the 4x100-m relay aside from ruling the
long jump event with a 3.02-m effort.
Luke Peralta, who was also part of the victorious 4x100-m Tay
Tung relay squad, took the gold in the 50-m sprint with an 8.10-sec.
clocking, while Alvin Asignar of UNO-R emerged as the most bemedalled
athlete in the boys' category with four golds and a bronze.*CIT
