Mayor bans trucks,
buses from boulevard
BY RENE GENOVE

Starting Thursday, heavy transport vehicles such as buses and cargo trucks will no longer be allowed to pass through the Rizal Boulevard, that is considered as a historical and tourism landmark in Dumaguete City.

The boulevard stretches from the welcome area at the pier to Brgy. Tinago, in the city.

Danny Atillo, Traffic Management Office chief for Operations, said Mayor Agustin Perdices has issued a memorandum prohibiting trucks and buses from entering the boulevard, and directing him to divert their routes to Sta. Catalina Street and turn to Epifanio Surban Street.

He said the mayor's directive aims at transforming the boulevard into a venue where senior citizens and tourists could enjoy the view of the sea and get fresh air unimpeded and out of danger.

Atillo assured the motorists, though, that traffic in the area will remain smooth and controlled, including that in major parts of the city, once road repairs and cementing have been completed.* RG
