Fisherfolk continue protest
against oil, gas exploration

Members of the progressive fisherfolk group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamalakaya ng Pilipinas -Negros continue to air their protest against the gas and oil exploration in Taņon Strait between Cebu and Negros islands.

Pamalakaya-Negros, led by their secretary-general Editho Namion Jr., said in a press conference at the Negros Press Club office yesterday that the livelihood of small fishermen have been greatly diminished and health problems ensued in areas where the exploration is being carried out by the Japan Petroleum Exploration and Canada Forum Exploration Ltd.

He said that thousands of hectares of sea areas bordering Cebu, Bohol, Negros, Masbate and even Leyte are affected by these activity.

SuperFerry cuts fare rates

Shipping company SuperFerry has launched a discounted rate promotion that will allow passengers to avail of discounts in fares for selected destinations at least two days before departure, a press release from SuperFerry said.

The SuperFerry Mega Tipid Trip promises no additional costs and includes all classes for discounts, from the super value class to the staterooms and suites in each vessel.

Andrew Deyto, SuperFerry assistant vice president for marketing said in the press release that they recognize that domestic travel is beginning to be competitive with the aggressive pricing schemes of other shipping lines or even the airline operators.

BACIWA sets
water disruption

The Bacolod City Water District yesterday announced in a press release that low water pressure to no water supply will be experienced in some portions of its service area due to the breakdown of the Paglaum Well.

Affected areas are: Hermelinda Homes, Paglaum Village, Bakyas, Purok Laurel, Alijis, JJ Gonzaga, PN&B Subdivision, Margen Compound, Purok Himaya and part of Mansilingan.

Estimated activation of the well is February 24, the press release said. Residents/consumers are advised to take necessary precautions to avoid inconvenience.*
