Bayan Negros to
stage protest Friday

A protest to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Friday will be staged by the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Negros.

A press release from its secretary general Felipe Levy Gelle Jr. said that BAYAN considers militant but peaceful people power a legitimate means to remove Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from power as an alternative to the military adventurism that will impose martial rule.

He said that the people's direct action is needed more than ever, to address the worsening economic and political situation.

The group is calling on workers, peasants, students, youth, women, urban poor, professionals. Teachers, church people, government employees, nationalist businessman and patriotic soldiers to intensify the flight to remove the Arroyo regime, the press release said.*
