The West Negros College junior boys' squad opens its campaign
against Holy Child School of Davao at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at the
start of the Philippine Basketball Federation Inc. National Students
Basketball Championships at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym in
Rizal, Antipolo.
The Baby Mustangs, reigning Negros Occidental Private Schools
Sports, Cultural and Educational Association champion in the secondary
boys' basketball competitions, will clash with the top secondary
schools in the Philippines during the cage tournament.
WNC coach Dennis Tumayan yesterday said he still does not
know what to expect in the game against HCS because he have yet
to see the team play.
"We will make our adjustments on Sunday depending on how our
opponents will play because we do not know their game style yet,"
Tumayan said.
Tumayan, who arrived with his team in Manila yesterday, said
he expects skipper Jay Uy to spearhead the offensive attack of his
team as well as Michael Noble, who will play an important role in
the Baby Mustangs' offense and defense in the shaded area.
The Wesnecans brought home the NOPSSCEA aspirants' boys basketball
crown by winning against the Mansilingan Christian Academy in the
finals at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
Tumayan said his squad is targeting to reach at least the
quarterfinal-round as tough competitions are expected in national
level tournaments.
The event will be a good exposure for the squad and the players
will surely give their opponents a tough battle, he said, adding
that his players have been better during their practices.
West Negros will also expect contributions from Roland Ong, Mark
Mancera, Michael Cepriano, Froilan Ditchon, Jophel Garrido, Michael
Jardiolin, Patrick Lizares, Rodelio Malinao, Michael Noble, Vince
Cellado and Cedric Tizon. *CIT
