Woman found dead;
hubby attempts to kill self
BY RENE GENOVE

Valentine's Day turned violent for an aging couple from Brgy. Manseje, Bindoy, Oriental Negros.

On that day, the body of a 62-year-old woman was found and less than an hours later, her husband tried to kill himself but was stopped by his young adopted son.

Police identified the couple as Juanito and Epifania Acebes.

Juanito's brother, Flaviano, said he found Epifania's body by a cliff. He became apprehensive as she had been missing since the day before, and Juanito had told him she had left but did not say where she was going.

The couple's adopted child told police he had heard Juanito and Epifania quarrelling on February 13.

After the body was found, the boy said he heard Flaviano telling Juanito that be had better surrender to the police.

On hearing the report, Juanito turned away, but after a few minutes, the boy said, he heard noise in the kitchen and when he checked, he saw his father hanging from a beam with a rope around his neck.

The boy took a bolo and cut the rope.

Up to press time yesterday, police are continuing investigation on the link between the wife's death and the husband's suicide attempt.*RG
