Probac, BBC rip TKP foes

Putting premium on defense in the final minute, Probac brought Magnolia back to earth with a come-from-behind 87-81 victory Wednesday night, while BBC handily won over Krua Thai-Ice Monster in the 6th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Cup Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City.

With the victory, Probac, mentored by Troy Sarabia, improved to 4-1, while dealing pacesetting Magnolia its initial loss in six games. But Magnolia remained on top of the standings in Bracket B.

In the second game, Rico Cabatu spewed fire from the perimeter to spark BBC to a 94-80 rout over Krua Thai-Ice Monsters.

Tipon, Parreņas joining
tri-nation boxing tilt

Negrense pugilists Joan Tipon and Warlito Parreņas are among the three Filipino boxers seeing action for the Philippine Boxing Team in the Australian Tri-Nation slugfest that fired off in Melbourne, Australia yesterday.

The Talisay City-born Tipon, who claimed a gold medal in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games in Bacolod City last year, aims to rule the bantamweight division, while Warlito Parreņas, who hails from Cadiz City, is vying for the top honors in the flyweight category. Tipon, who is also the reigning Asian men's boxing champion, and Parreņas, bronze medallist during the biennial meet, is participating in the tournament with compatriot Albert Pabila.

Tipon, Parreņas and Pabila, who is seeing action in the light-flyweight division, is coached Elmer Pamisa in the tri-nation boxing competitions that also showcases the top pugilists from Croatia and host Australia.

3 athletics crowns
IN CAPIZ REGIONAL MEET

The Negros elementary and secondary athletics teams aim to bring home three team crowns in the sport during the Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association Meet from March 16 to 20 in Roxas City, Capiz, an official of the Negros delegation said yesterday.

"We are really concentrating on athletics. We are aiming to win three of the four team titles at stake in athletics, but we would welcome a sweep with open arms," Manuel De Oro, officer-in-charge of the Negros Occidental Provincial Sports and Development Office, said.

The athletics competitions in the regional meet will stake team championships in the boys and girls' divisions of the elementary and secondary levels.
