More than 10,000 student-delegates from various STI
campuses in Metro Manila and nearby provinces joined the 11th National
Youth Convention on the theme "Mission Possible: Shaping Your Future…Today!,"
at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City, recently, an STI
press release said yesterday.
The yearly convention was part of the Enrollment
to Employment system or E2E System of STI, which tackled topics
on information technology, entrepreneurship and personal enhancement.
The speakers were Mario Domingo, who discussed
IT-Mobile Gaming, Dennis Evangelista - "Mind Your Own Business,"
and Rene Espinosa, who talked about "You Can Make a Difference,"
it said.
Also held was a raffle draw with a laptop computer
with printer, two iPod Nanos, two cellular phones and a digital
camera as prizes. Participants were also given information compact
discs about the NYC topics and previous conventions.
The previous conventions were held in Baguio, Cebu,
Ormoc, Iloilo, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro and Davao, it added.*

Drivers
receive insurance
About 1,900 tricycle drivers in Kabankalan City,
Negros Occidental, received free one-year accident insurance amounting
to P10,000 from the city government, a press release from the Kabankalan
government said.
The drivers are members of various tricycle drivers
associations in Kabankalan and are license holders.
Present at the distribution of insurance policies
were Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr., Vice Mayor Raul Rivera, Councilors Delia
Anacan and Ricardo Regalia Jr., and City Social Welfare and Development
head Adelina Tomaro, the press release also said.*

Kyoto
Protocol photo exhibit,
mural signing slated at WNC
A photo exhibit and mural signing will be held this
week by Solar Generation at the WNC campus, in Bacolod City, a Greenpeace
press release said yesterday.
SG is the youth project of environmental group
Greenpeace, in coordination with the student publication of West
Negros College, the press release said.
This will be a commemoration of the first anniversary
of the enforcement of the Kyoto Protocol, the treaty aimed at reducing
greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change, it added.
Youth environmentalists in Negros Occidental continue to appeal
to the local and national governments to uphold the commitment of
the Philippines to the treaty, drawn in Kyoto, Japan in 1997, and
for renewable energy and energy efficiency, the press release also
said.
Several Bacolod schools have supported the Kyoto
Protocol and the support for it by the youth all over the world
was declared at a pre-conference summit on climate change in Montreal,
Canada, recently, it added.*

sets lecture-gab
on 'effective parenting'
The Philippine Mental Health Association Negros Occidental-Bacolod
Chapter will hold a lecture-forum on "Effective Parenting", 8 a.m.
to noon Saturday, at Room C-16, Cody Building, University of St.
La Salle in Bacolod City, a press release from the group said yesterday.
Professor O B Dañocup, consultant in special
education and early childhood education of Jack and Jill School
and Riverside College, will talk on "Understanding Children's Behavior,
Misbehavior and Yourself as a Parent," and "Encouragement: Building
Your Child's Confidence and Feelings of Worth," the press release
said.
The activity is open to parents, teachers, guidance
counselors, social workers and professionals.
Registration fee is at P120 and those interested
