Seek independent probe,
NBI urges PNP official
BY GUILLERMO TEJIDA JR.

The head of the National Bureau of Investigation in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental whose agents claimed to have been mauled by policemen of Pamplona town on Feb. 4, yesterday urged Chief Insp. Julius Muņez, police deputy director of Oriental Negros, to seek an independent probe, if he is not interested in cooperating with the NBI fact-finding body from Central Visayas now looking into the incident.

Bacolod NBI agent-in-charge Philip Pecache yesterday told the DAILY STAR that Muņez, by defying the subpoena for him to appear before the fact-finding commission of the NBI-Region 7, has, in effect, waived his right to present his side on what really transpired between the NBI men and the Pamplona policemen he was leading during the alleged mauling.

"His refusal is tantamount to a waiver on his part," Pecache said, adding that if Muņez doesn't trust the NBI probe team, then he should seek other investigating bodies or agencies to look into the case.

The safety of pedestrians and students still top the concerns over the controversial construction of the overpass near Silliman University, in Dumaguete City, which is almost completed now.

A petition signed by deans of the different departments at Silliman University, professors, students, residents of the surrounding neighborhood and the general public had asked concerned agencies to ensure the proper use of the structure.

The petitioners said they feel that certain measures should be implemented to prevent injuries to students after school hours.

NORSU approves one
'retake' policy for students
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Students at the Negros Orietnal State University are given only one chance to recover a failed subject through a "retake" examination.

After the "retake", and the student still cannot get the required passing grade, he or she will not be accepted back in the university, NORSU president Dr. Henry Sojor, said.

Sojor explained that the policy was approved by members of the Board of Regents, the state university lawmaking body, to address the problem of students who keep retaking their failed subjects.
