Students at the Negros Orietnal State University are given only
one chance to recover a failed subject through a "retake" examination.
After the "retake", and the student still cannot get the required
passing grade, he or she will not be accepted back in the university,
NORSU president Dr. Henry Sojor, said.
Sojor explained that the policy was approved by members of
the Board of Regents, the state university lawmaking body, to address
the problem of students who keep retaking their failed subjects.
If the retake is scheduled in the semester, the student pays
only P200 per unit every hour.
Retakers, however, pay the higher amount of P715 per unit
per hour during off semesters.
Sojor said most NORSU students are scholars of government,
and if they fail in their subjects, it is like wasting government
funds, mostly coming from taxes.
Sojor told the students not to lose the opportunity of studying
at NORSU, because failure to pass the retake will mean their outright
expulsion from the school.*JG
