City hall site hearing today

A public hearing has been scheduled today by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod to consider all offers for a new site for the Bacolod city hall at the Liga ng mga Barangay Hall in Bacolod City at 3 p.m.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said he is open to all offers although his official stand has always been for the Taculing site. He said the lot identified is 3.5 hectares and it is adjacent to the City Engineer's Office, which has another 1.5 hectares. If these lots are integrated, the new city hall will have a total area of about 5 hectares, he added.

Leonardia said their term as city officials is supposed to end in 2007 so they should do everything possible to finish the new city hall by the time June 30, 2007 comes.

"If we could start before June this year, there is a big chance we can put up a new city hall," he said.

Meanwhile, Bacolod Vice Mayor Renecito Novero said that during the executive-legislative caucus yesterday, City Administrator Lorendo Dilag presented to them all the 18 offers received by the city which include five donations.

What was discussed during the caucus, he said, was the nature of the offers, although the group did not decide on the mode of acquiring a city hall. He said all the offerors and the public are invited to attend the public hearing today. The city officials have decided that after the public hearing, they will meet again this afternoon to discuss what had transpired and will narrow down the options, or go through a process of elimination, Novero said.*CGS
