52 teams confirm entry
in NOVA age-group tilt

About 52 squads have confirmed their entry in the 16th Annual Negros Occidental Volleyball Association-NOCSF Age-Group Volleyball Championship that kicks off Saturday at the University of St. La Salle Covered Courts in Bacolod City.

The competitors will be vying for the crowns in the boys and girls' divisions of the 10-Under, 12-Under, 14-Under and 16-Under categories.

Defending 16-Under boys' champion University of Negrso Occidental-Recoletos has fielded its team in the division as well as St. Joseph's School-La Salle, USLS, Silay City, La Consolacion College-Main, St. Benilde School, EB Magalona, Mansilingan Christian Academy and St. Theresita's Academy.

The title in the 16-Under girls' category will be jousted by reigning titlist EB Magalona, Silay City, SBS, Pulupandan, La Carlota City, STA, LCC-Main, La Salle, Bacolod Christian Education Center School and MCA-Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

La Carlota City and LCC-Main are the only squads that have confirmed their entry in the 14-Under boys' category as defending champion USLS and last year's first and second runners-up, respectively, Negros Occidental High School and EB Magalona.

Squads that have joined in the 14-Under girls' division so far are St. Joseph's, SBS, Atleta, St. John's Institute, SJI-selection, Silay City, Trinity Christian School, MCA and USLS.

Defending 12-Under boys' champion Silay City hopes to retain its crown against the spikers from Pulupandan, EELMS, La Carlota City, St. Benilde, USLS and La Consolacion Academy-Murcia, while the 12-Under girls' category will be competed in by La Carlota City, SBS, La Salle and St. Rose of Lima School.

The 10-Under boys' title is eyed by reigning titlist Queen of Peace School-B, LCA-Murcia, QPS-A, EELMS and EB Magalona as SJI aims to keep its championship in the 10-Under girls' division against QPS, USLS-A, Trinity, USLS-B and EB Magalona.

Tournament coordinator Malot Lozada said some teams are still expected to join the annual event.

The registration fee in the 10-Under category is pegged at P800, while the squads that will compete in the 12, 14 and 16-Under categories will have a registration fee of P1,200.
