The Oriental Negros police deputy director defied a sub poena for him to appear before the fact-finding commission of the National Bureau of Investigation-Central Visayas, that is probing the alleged beating up of NBI agents from Bacolod City, in Pamplona by town policemen on Feb. 4.

Chief Inspector Julius Salingan Muñez, deputy provincial director of the Philippine National Police in Oriental Negros, was summoned by the NBI fact-finding team headed by NBI acting regional director Medardo de Lemos, to shed light on the controversial mauling incident that has already reached the attention of top officials of the Philippine National Police and NBI.

The NBI Dumaguete office said, Muñez stated that much has been said about the incident, and that his first report to the regional command, copy furnished the NBI office, will already suffice.

Capitol to earmark P20M
for workers' allowance

The Oriental Negros government is ready to give between P18 million and P20 million in additional allowances to its employees, provincial treasurer Danilo Mendez said.

Mendez said 1,700 employees in the province are entitled to the P1,000 in monthly additional allowance as approved by the House of Representatives two weeks ago.

Rep. Emilio Macias II (Oriental Negros, 2nd district) said national government employees will automatically avail of the benefit, while those in the local government units can receive the allowance, if funds are available.

For the Oriental Negros government employees, Mendez said, " We will just be waiting for the circular from the Department of Budget and Management, and we will immediately comply."

Bystanders beat up
3 pickpockets

Bystanders responding to a call for help by a bus passenger, chased and apprehended three pickpockets who had stolen the wallet of the victim who was getting off the vehicle, Saturday night, in Brgy. Buñao, Dumaguete City.

Police identified the victim as Danna Faustorilla, 31, married, of Brgy. Camanjac, and the suspects as Javier Banabana, 39, married, of Brgy. Tubtubon, Sibulan; Zaldy Albarado, 43, married, of Brgy. Magatas also in Sibulan; and a certain "Niño,"of Colon Extension, Dumaguete.

The victim said Banabana blocked the door when she was disembarking from the bus that had stopped at the national highway in Buñao.
