Capitol to earmark P20M
for workers' allowance

BY ROMY AMARADO

The Oriental Negros government is ready to give between P18 million and P20 million in additional allowances to its employees, provincial treasurer Danilo Mendez said.

Mendez said 1,700 employees in the province are entitled to the P1,000 in monthly additional allowance as approved by the House of Representatives two weeks ago.

Rep. Emilio Macias II (Oriental Negros, 2nd district) said national government employees will automatically avail of the benefit, while those in the local government units can receive the allowance, if funds are available.

For the Oriental Negros government employees, Mendez said, " We will just be waiting for the circular from the Department of Budget and Management, and we will immediately comply."

He said that the additional allowance is better compared to the eight percent salary increase earlier sought by government workers. The additional allowance will be free from deductions and will be received equitably by both government rank and file employees and officials.

There will also be no add-ons, unlike a salary hike, which also has a corresponding increase in its counterpart in the Government Service Insurance System premium, and 13th-month pay, among others.*RA
