Voters registration to resume

The Commission on Elections in Bacolod City will resume on February 16 the registration of new voters including those whose names were deactivated for failure to vote twice.

Bacolod Comelec registrar Mavil Majarucon said that last January 16 the commission deactivated 16,399 voters of Bacolod City for their failure to vote in 2002 and 2004. She said her office is right now preparing personal notices to these persons and will also send communications to their barangay captains.

"We are advising them to come to our office and have their records reactivated so they can vote if there is an election in 2007," she said, adding that they have to bring valid ID's.

Majarucon said the Comelec-Bacolod suspended the registration of voters on Oct. 25, 2005 because their peripherals, like cameras and thumb print which are used for capturing data, were defective. These peripherals arrived last week so Comelec will continue the registration on Thursday in preparation for the 2007 elections, she said.*CGS
