The University of St. La Salle tied its team title-haul of 20
last year after bringing home the championships in the aspirants
boys and girls' volleyball hostilities of the NOPSSCEA sports meet
over the weekend at the USLS Covered Court in Bacolod City.
La Salle's aspirants boys' squad trampled the University of
Negros Occidental-Recoletos Talisay, 25-13, 25-7, to claim the crown,
while its aspirants girls' demolished La Consolacion College-Main,
25-20, 25-17, for the title.
The Queen of Peace School-B retained its championship in the
10-Under boys' category by scoring a 26-24, 25-22 victory over La
Consolacion Academy, while St. John's Institute-A outlasted USLS,
25-22, 23-25, 26-24, to take the 10-Under girls' crown.
QPS-A registered a come-from-behind 18-25, 25-18, 25-14 triumph
against UNO-R Bacolod to finish third in the 10-Under boys' category
as Bacolod Tay Tung High School placed second runner up in the 10-Under
girls' division after beating SJI-B, 25-17, 25-18.
Ending up in the third and fourth places, respectively, in
the aspirants boys' competitions were LCC-Main and St. Joseph's
School-La Salle, while St. Scholastica's Academy and SJS-La Salle
finished second and third runners-up, respectively, in the aspirants
girls' play.
Aside from the volleyball crowns in the aspirants division,
USLS, which emerged as the 'winningest' school in the 2004-2005
NOPSSCEA sports meet, earlier claimed 11 of the 18 team championships
up for grabs in the collegiate division to pull away from the title
race.
The La Sallians are already assured of preserving overall
honors with only 8 more crowns to be jousted for and their closest
rivals --- West Negros College and BTTHS --- have collected only
six championships each so far.
La Salle ruled the men and women's categories of athletics,
lawn tennis, swimming, taekwondo and volleyball, and sepak takraw.
USLS also took the crowns of the boys and girls' lawn tennis,
boys' swimming and junior boys' volleyball in the secondary division.
The La Sallians also ruled the boys and girls' swimming and boys'
lawn tennis in the elementary contest.
Championships still to be disputed in the school-based meet
are boys' basketball and boys' football in the aspirants division,
and elementary boys' basketball. Also up for grabs are titles in
the 10-Under category of the boys and girls' athletics, chess and
soft volleyball, and boys' basketball.
WNC won its six titles by topping the men's chess, football
and basketball tournaments in collegiate play, before ruling the
junior boys' football and basketball, and girls' chess.
Tay Tung snared the titles in the high school division of the
boys and girls' athletics and boys' badminton. BTTHS also reigned
supreme in the boys and girls' chess and boys' athletics of the
