DOST awardees

Three senior students of Silliman University in Dumaguete City are recipients this year of the Bank of the Philippine Islands-Department of Science and Technology Science Awards, that will be presented today.

The three are Johan Diaz (Biology), Wilheim Janssen Go (Electrical Engineering) and Vanrick Seferino Sagario (Information Technology).

Diaz's research is on "The Effects of an Amino Acid Rich Diet on the Growth of the Larvae of the Philippine Papillio demoleus libanius Fruhstorfur 1908 of Negros Island Philippines", while Go's and Sagario's are on "A Design of an Anti-theft Modular Plug-in Outlet Using X-10 Technology" and "Biohunt: Online Flora and Fauna Archive of the Negros Island", respectively.

Each awardee will receive P25,000 in a BPI ATM account, and a plaque of appreciation. Their names will also be placed on a bronze tablet for the award at the Villareal Hall.

The BPI-DOST awards recognizes and gives incentives to students who excel in the specialized fields of science, namely mathematics, physics, engineering, chemistry, biology, and computer science.*
