A certified public accountant who is also a law student bested
her opponents in the Negros Oriental 2 Electric Company election
held Saturday for the lone seat of the board of directors representing
the electric consumers of Dumaguete City.
Fe Marie Pinky Dicen-Tagle garnered 1,436 votes while her
closest rival, retired police Col. Constantino Sayson got only 736
votes, while former DECs division superintendent of Oriental Negros
Dr. Metodio Gapasin settled for third place with 349 votes.
Tagle won convincingly in 14 out of 20 precincts of the city
while the remaining six precincts went to Sayson and Gapasin. Tagle
will assume her post in April.
In Bantayan, majority of the votes went to Sayson, a resident,
but in rural barangays and some in the poblacion areas, it was Tagle
who won.
In Camanjac, Sayson got only one vote.
Tagle is the daughter of outgoing board chairman Esperatu
Dicen, who is also the general manager of the city water district.
Tagle later assured electric consumers that she will work
for the upgrading of the electrical wiring system in Dumaguete to
stabilize the power supply, and entice investors to open businesses
in Dumaguete and in the province.
Mayor Agustin Perdices welcomed Tagle's entry to the board
of directors of NORECO 2, and said he hoped that she will be able
to represent and carry the concern of the city for a stable supply
of electricity.
Perdices and Gov. George Arnaiz are expected to attend the
next general assembly of the cooperative scheduled in Bayawan City
in March.
During the assembly, the governor is expected to reiterate
the offer of the provincial government for an interest-free loan
of P27 million.*JG
