Two farmers were shot and killed in broad daylight in Barangay
Masulog, Canlaon City, by seven unidentified armed men, recently.
The victims, who sustained multiple bullet wounds were identified
as Marlon Magallano Villahermosa, 32, married and Renato Salhorin
Puerta, 35, married, all of Barangay Masulog, in Canlaon.
They were sprayed with bullets from high-powered firearms
and were killed instantly, police said.
The suspects allegedly used two M16 rifles, two caliber .45
pistols, one garand, one carbine and a 12-gauge shotgun.
Recovered from the jacket of one of the victims were 42 spent
shells of M16 rifle, five empty shells for 45 cal. pistol, seven
empty shells for 12-gauge shotgun, a pistol holster and two live
ammunition for 12-gauge shotgun.
The police are looking into three angles in the killing: first
was land dispute, and second, the conflict between the Canlaon warriors
and the Guardians brotherhood, and third, the New People's Army.
Guardians brotherhood Canlaon City founder, Renato dela Viņa
was quoted as saying that it was possible that the armed men were
former companions of the victims.
Reports also said that the culprits could be members of the
Leonardo Panaligan Command of the New People's Army.*
