The Sandiganbayan has found the former manager of the Bacolod City Water District guilty of three counts of falsification of public documents involving P1,700 and sentenced her to more than 10 years imprisonment.

The 32-page Sandiganbayan Fourth Division decision against Juliana Tan promulgated on Jan. 24, 2006, was penned by Associate Justice Rodolfo Ponferrada and concurred in by Associate Justices Gregory Ong and Jose Hernandez.

In Criminal Cases No 26339, 26349 and 26341 Tan was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt of falsification of private documents and sentenced to one year and one day to three years six months and 21 days imprisonment for each case, or a total of three years and three days as minimum to 10 years, six months and 63 days as maximum. moremoremore

Former Senator John Osmeņa yesterday asked Senator Rodolfo Biazon, chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Safety, to act on the strong suspicions that law enforcement employees involved in a recent incident involving two foreigners at the Pamplona Plantation Resorts "were acting for vested interests -- not for the general public."

Osmeņa was referring to the case where an NBI team from Bacolod City, on the requests of Korean pastor Kim Seong Kook, served a search warrant for illegal possession of firearms issued by a Cebu Regional Trial Court to Korean businessman Ha Hae Bong, also known as Michael Ha at the Pamplona Plantation Resort on Feb. 4. moremoremore

Bacolod wins AIM award

Bacolod, Batangas, Iligan, Iloilo and San Fernando-Pampanga cities topped the 2005 survey conducted by the Asian Institute of Management, in cooperation with the USAID, the Asia Foundation and the German Technical Cooperation during the awarding rites held at the Grand Ballroom of the International Hotel in Makati City yesterday.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia received the plaque of recognition from AIM president Roberto de Ocampo at the ceremonies for the Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Project 2005 awards. Assisting de Ocampo were USAID Mission Director Jon Lindborg, Asia Foundation County Representative Steve Rood, and German Technical Cooperation Program Manager Martina Vahlaus. moremoremore
