A Western Visayas congressman is set to deliver a privilege speech
in the House today denouncing the Professional Regulation Commission
for withholding the board examination results of West Negros College
nursing graduates, Nelia Gonzales, one of the examinees, said.
The Board of Nursing recently released Resolution 4 granting
the release only of the board examination results of West Negros
College graduates with loads not exceeding 30 units and Related
Learning Experience hours per semester, as prescribed in Commission
on Higher Education Memo No. 30, Series of 2001. The Board of Nursing,
however, has not released the examination results of those with
30 units and below yet.
Gonzales said Capiz Rep. Fredenil Castro will deliver the
speech because many of those affected by the withholding of the
test results are from Capiz. Gonzales said she and 11 others will
be at Congress this afternoon and expect a congressional inquiry
on the PRC actions to follow Castro's privileged speech.
Gonzales said there were 599 WNC graduates who took the board
examination in December.
Of the 599, only about 127 had taken 30 units and below, about
300 had taken 31 to 35 units a semester, and the rest had 36 units
and above, Gonzales said.
BN Resolution No. 4 said the release of results of WNC
examinees with loads exceeding 30 units will be withheld, and their
transcripts of records and other papers will be submitted to CHED
for evaluation.
The recommendation of the CHED, based on its evaluation, will
then be the basis for the Nursing Board and PRC to either release
the examinees' board examination results, or cause the "cancellation
of their licensure examination and/or disbarment from future examinations,"
the resolution also said.*CPG
