TBA, AMG clip rivals
in TKP Cup

Tangub Basketball Association and AMG Pawnshop-Summit notched their third victories Friday night to boost their quarterfinal hopes in the 6th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Cup Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City.

RG Purefoods fell short in the endgame anew, allowing TBA to escape with a 106-100 win. Purefoods remained winless in four games, losing all their outings under 10 points.

Powered by Alex Sequiño and Rodel Nicor, TBA improved its record to 3-1. Sequiño finished with 19 points, while Nicor added 16 for the Tangub win.

After Jeffrey Caratao placed RG ahead, 94-92, with 1:45 left, Sequiño and Elmer Santander ignited a 7-0 blast to push Tangub ahead, before the duo came up with their team's final six points that sealed the win. Caratao led with 25 markers with Juric Dejero and Romeo Rojo adding 19 and 15, respectively.

Summit-AMG Pawnshop overcame a veteran-laden YBAC squad, 110-97, in a game highlighted by spurts AMG pawnshop led at the end of the opening quarter, 23-18, but in YBAC working behind Ariston Sillana, Embo Cañete and Pax Rodriguez roared back and even took a 52-44 advantage at halftime.

Summit, however, jumped the gun on YBAC, capitalizing on its youth and executing its run-and-gun game efficiently to grab a commanding, 86-69, lead that was too tough to overcome.

Salvador Bonza topscored with 23 points for Summit, while Ben Ong Jr. made 16 and Jessimar Gabihan chipped in 15, Richard Co added 12 and Arvin Gustilo contributed 11 for Summit.

Sillana paced YBAC with 19, while Canete and Insik Smalley posted 15 apiece. Roger Jaype finished with 13 points for YBAC. *CPT
