Dad mulls affiliation fee hike

The Oriental Negros Sanggunian is now studying the possibility of increasing the affiliation fee from nursing students undergoing internship at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City.

Provincial Board Member Marcelo Adanza, chairperson of the SP Committee on Health, said they will study whether an increase in the affiliation fee is needed so the provincial government can get a share.

In a meeting with heads of offices of the capitol last week, Gov. George Arnaiz expressed disagreement with the practice of having the affiliation fee of nursing students go only to the schools, clinical instructors and some nurses of the NOPH.

He said that since the students are doing their practice or internship at the provincial-run hospital, they are using the facilities of NOPH, and the provincial government should be given its share. Initially, the governor hinted that the fee could either be divided with the provincial government given a share, or increase the fee for the share of the province.

He, however, said the matter should be studied by the SP for possible legislation.*RA
