Friendship ties bridge eyed

Officials of the two provinces of Negros island hope to build a "friendly ties" bridge at a still unscheduled date to link Ayungon town in Oriental Negros to Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental.

The building of the P4.5 million bridge will start after the signing of an agreement between Oriental Negros Gov. George Arnaiz and Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Maraņon, with their officials and the mayors of Ayungon and Kabankalan City.

The composite bridge will connect lower Brgy. Carol-an in Kabankalan and Upper Brgy. Carol-an in Ayungon.

Oriental Negros has committed a counterpart fund of P2 million.

The project is in line with the "One Island Development Program" aimed to hasten the socio-economic and tourism development of the entire Negros Island.

The leaders of both provinces pledged to link arms and to cooperate to improve the road network in the area.*
