CHR aids probe on mauling
of NBI agents in Pamplona

The Commission on Human Rights in Bacolod City is assisting in the investigation of the mauling of six members of the National Bureau of Investigation team who were serving a search warrant to a Korean businessman in Pamplona town on Feb. 4.

Romeo Baldevarona of the CHR Bacolod yesterday said they are compiling the affidavits of those who were beaten up, to be forwarded to the CHR regional office in Cebu that is investigating the incident.

We are assisting in the documentation, he said.

Menci Mamaspas, leader of the NBI team that was attempting to serve the search warrant on businessman Ha Hae Bong, said he and his team members were mauled by Negros Oriental policemen and civilians.

Mauled with him were NBI agent Ed Kawada, NBI consultants Bernie Belleza and Francis Ramos, and BID employees Cyrus Alazan, and Eric Plamco.

Ramos, who was seriously injured, was hospitalized in Bacolod City.

Government authorities are preparing to file charges against those responsible for the mauling.*CPG
