The Philippine oral round of the Philip C. Jessup International
Moot Court Competition will be hosted by Silliman University in
Dumaguete City, Oriental Negros, on Feb. 18.
It will be the first time the competition in the Philippines
will be held outside Metro Manila, organizers said. The contest
deals with international law and has gained the reputation as being
the largest and most prestigious international law moot court competition
in the world.
About 1,500 students from more than 300 law schools in almost
50 nations on six continents will participate in the competition.
The participating law students will write memorials to be
submitted in theory to the International Court of Justice in the
Hague, and argue them before lawyers and jurists well-versed in
various fields of international law.
SU College of Law dean, Myles Nicholas Bejar, who has
been appointed as the National Administrator for the Philippine
round of the competition, said the participating Philippine schools
are Ateneo de Manila University, University of the Philippines Diliman,
and Far Eastern University.
The competition will revolve around the International Human
Rights Law.
The winner in the Philippine round will represent the country
in the international competition to be held in Washington, D.C.
in March this year, to be sponsored by the International Law Studies
Association and the American Society for International Law.*MG
