Two killed in Siaton
highway collision

A 64-year-old woman and her 31-year-old son died on the spot when the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a tricycle loaded with passengers at a sloping portion of the national highway in Brgy. Mantuyop, Siaton, Oriental Negros, recently.

The victims were identified as Inoferia Peralta and her son, Richard Peralta, 31, married, both of Brgy. Sumaliring, in Siaton.

Witnesses said that, before the collision, Richard, who was driving, had overtaken the motorcycle driven by Armando Benlot, with Carmencita Babor as passenger, both of Brgy. Basak, Bais City. While negotiating the high slope, Richard's motorcycle slammed into the tricycle driven by Christopher Jimenez, 29, married of Brgy. Maloh, Siaton, which was running in the opposite direction.

The motorcycle of the Peraltas overturned, resulting in their fatal injuries, while four out of the nine passengers on Jimenez's tricycle suffered wounds, bruises and leg injuries. They were brought to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City.

Benlot and Babor also sustained minor injuries when they fell from their motorcycle.

The Peraltas died while being rushed to the Siaton District Hospital, traffic investigators said.*RG
