Schools vow to strengthen
workforce for IT companies

ITS-NET unanimously supported Tuesday the move of the Bacolod City IT Focus Team to fully expand the manpower supply required by existing and future IT-related service companies, such as call centers and medical transcription firms.

Meanwhile, educational institutions in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City belonging to the Information Technology Schools Network have vowed to strengthen the local workforce for IT locators.

Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chairperson of the IT Focus Team, said ITS-NET committed to share modules and curriculum with all schools to improve the foundation of graduates in written and oral English as well as computer skills, collate data on all qualified graduates and students in the schools level and submit these to the IT Team.

RP exports off target in 2005,
but upbeat for '06, official says

MANILA -- Philippine exports are expected to grow 10 percent this year although the country needed to diversify its product offerings, Economic Planning Secretary Augusto Santos said yesterday.

Exports grew only 3.9 percent last year to $41.22 billion, well below the 8.0 percent growth target, the National Statistics Office said earlier.

However, exports in December showed signs of a recovery, rising 16.8 percent over the same period in 2004 to hit 3.83 billion dollars, the agency said.
