Mayor denies calling Maraņon
corrupt, goes after councilor

An administrative complaint has been filed against Councilor Helen Clavecillas before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for conduct unbecoming a public official by Murcia Mayor Esteban Coscolluela for allegedly saying that he had accused Gov. Joseph Maraņon of being corrupt.

Coscolluela said Clavecillas had denied in radio interviews that she had apologized to him, prompting him to file a complaint against her.

Clavecillas could not be immediately reached for comment.

The mayor said he asked the SP to investigate whether he has said something bad about the governor, as claimed by Clavecillas.

He said he learned in October last year that Clavecillas passed information to Board Member Miller Serondo that he had said that Maraņon is involved in corruption.

He said that when he asked Clavecillas to prove her claim, she asked for two weeks to reply in writing, but has not done so. He said she just said she will talk to the governor.

HE SAID, SHE SAID

He said they faced each other at a meeting in a restaurant in Bacolod City on October 28 and he asked her in front of the seven other councilors if he had said what she claimed he had said about the governor. He said Clavecillas admitted that he didn't say what she claimed he had said, and apologized for what she had done.

The mayor said he was ready to forgive Clavecillas and wrote Maraņon about what happened. But a radio station interviewed Clavecillas, and she allegedly denied that she had apologized to him, Coscolluela said.

Clavecillas supposedly said, "I won't confirm or deny anything," and it made him look like a liar, Coscolluela added. He also said he lodged his complaint before the SP because it has jurisdiction over town councilors.*NLG
