The implementing guidelines contained in the proposed Comprehensive Scholarship Program of Bacolod City proposed by Bacolod Councilor Greg Gasataya has been approved by the Bacolod City Scholarship Committee recently.

Gasataya said the guidelines will be forwarded to the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod for ratification, after which the city can implement the program.

Gasataya, chairman of the Committee on Education, said the city government has allocated P3 million for its scholarship program where each scholar can avail of P3,500 allowance every semester and enjoy free tuition fees.

He said the city offers scholarship to academic top notchers, the poorest of the poor, children who are dependents of barangay workers, tanods, nutrition scholars, barangay health workers and differently abled persons. It also offers advancement programs for public school teachers and regular employees who want to enroll in masters degree courses and doctorate degrees.

The Bacolod City Scholarship Committee is composed of Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia as chairman, Gasataya as vice chairman, the SP Committee on Youth and Barangay Affairs, City Treasurer, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association.*CGS
