City collects P200T
from traffic violators

The Dumaguete City government has raised more than P200,000 from citation tickets and impounding receipts from January to early this month, records from the City Treasurer's Office revealed.

The coordinated effort called Operations "Kilum-Kilum," "Bakal" and "Night Eyes" not only raked in revenues for the local government, but also resulted in preventing crimes involving motorcycles without plate numbers, the CTO said.

In January, about P188,300 was collected, while early this month, revenues reached about P34,000.

The CTO, however, noted that after the violators have paid for the fines and sanctions, they are again back in the streets. Suggestions were raised to first require them to comply with the requirements before their impounded vehicles are released.*JG
