The Negros Occidental Convenors of the Citizen's Pilgrimage for
Truth and Justice is set to stage a march rally in major thoroughfares
of Bacolod City at about 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, as part of the nationally
coordinated and three-week march and caravan in commemoration of
the People Power I event on Feb. 22.
Edwin Balajadia of the Negros Caucus, one of the Negros Convenors
said, the pilgrimage started from Cotabato City, Dipolog City and
Laoag City is expected to arrive in Bacolod City at about 6 p.m.
today.
The pilgrimage that came by Dumaguete City will pay a courtesy
visit and dialog with Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra, following
a cultural and solidarity night at the Fountain of Justice at about
9 p.m., he also said.
The pilgrimage seeks to educate and mobilize and consolidate the
basic sectors, civil society, progressive political formations and
middle forces on the issues of the proposed charter change through
Constituent Assembly, No election and other national and local issues,
Delia "Dudes" Locsin of the NUNCA said in a press conference
attended by multi-sectoral organizations at the Negros Press Club
in Bacolod City yesterday.
Meanwhile, Ben Solilapsi of the Alab Katipunan said the pilgrimage
also aimed to remember the People Power I and II, removal of government
leaders who are not worthy to be put in their positions and genuine
reforms.
Other Negros Occidental convenors who joined the conference yesterday
were Ma. Teresa Lozada of CIU/Akbayan, Nemesio Demafelis of Akbayan,
Noel Etabag Sr. of Bukluran ng Mangagawang Pilipino, Abraham Tingson
of Serve the People Movement, Dr. Violeta Gonzaga of SEACREST Foundation
and Moben Ligahon of the Free from Debt Coalition.*DMG
