Cops nab three
cousins with weapons

Three cousins were apprehended by Precinct 1 policemen for alleged possession each of an improvised firearm, locally known as "sumpak" with ammunitions, and bladed weapons at Luzuriaga-San Juan streets in Bacolod City at about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Arrested were Ronald Padasas Samis, 24, of Brgy. Busay, Bago City, Josevito Balamad Samis, 24, of Kandiakap, Kabankalan City and Samuel Samis Escaren, 25, married, of Purok Boulevard, Brgy. 14, Bacolod City for violation of Presidential Decree 1866 as amended by Republic Act 8294, or illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, police reports said.

Recovered from them were three 12-gauge "sumpak", 10 12-gauge live ammunitions and two bladed weapons, police reports said.

Case investigator PO3 Celito Dullan yesterday said in a phone interview, that Police Precinct 1 led by Chief Insp. Jimmy Fortaleza was conducting a police visibility patrol in downtown Bacolod, when the two Samis and Escaren, who were on a trisikad, were apprehended.

Dullan said initial investigations showed that the three were planning to shoot a trisikad driver against whom they had a personal grudge.

The three were detained in the lock-up cell of Police Precinct 1. Charges against them are now being readied by the police, Dullan said.*DMG
