5 NPA assassins facing
multiple murder charges

Charges of multiple murder were filed by the Mabinay police against the five assassins of breakaway faction communist rebel leader Rogelio Magbato, alias Ka Malvar, before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office in Dumaguete City, Oriental Negros.

Senior Inspector Teodorico Pecardal, Mabinay police chief, yesterday identified the respondents in the multiple murder charges as TJ Michael Nuyco, Eddie Amper and three John Does.

The New People's Army Boy Gatmaitan Command claimed responsibility for the assassination of Magbato in Mabinay, Oriental Negros, on Jan. 26.

City police raid 'tigbakay'

The Dumaguete City Police raided Sunday morning an illegal cockfighting (tigbakay) activity in Brgy. Bagacay, but failed to arrest any bettors.

Dumaguete City is the first among local government units in Oriental Negros to ban cockfighting outside of regular official cockpits.

Police investigator, Inspector Teddy Faburada said his team received a report from a resident of Sitio Dapdap in Bagacay just after 10 a.m. Sunday that a tigbakay was going on in the area.

Dad bucks ordinance
on anti-mendicancy

Objections continued to mount over the proposed ordinance penalizing and prohibiting the giving of cash or material goods to beggars in Dumaguete City, Oriental Negros.

After its deferment two weeks ago, the proposed ordinance authored by Councilor Sammy Dicen is experiencing rough sailing, especially from lawyer-members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod. The measure aims to stop residents from giving to mendicants in public places, buildings, offices as well as in any business or commercial establishments.
