Pawnshop triumph

Magnolia Nutri-oil claimed its third straight win Friday night, routing Krua Thai-Ice Monster, 99-75, in a battle of unbeaten teams in the 6th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Cup Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

With the win, Magnolia improved to 3-0 and grabbed the solo lead in Bracket B, while KT-Ice Monster dropped to 2-1.

Other weekend games saw Buddy's beating YBAC, 120-85, to boost its record to 2-1 and AMG Pawnshop-Summit scoring a close 100-97 win over RG Purefoods.

AMG Pawnshop also hiked its record to 2-1, the same record with Probac which got back on the winning track Saturday night after breezing past Rentas Knights, 96-65.

Mark Descutido led the Magnolia win with 23 points. He combined with Warren Alintano to foil Krua Thai, which trimmed the gap, 71-69, before Magnolia unleashed a closing 18-2 blast to put the game out of reach. It was actually a costly bench technical slapped against KT that stopped its momentum.

Onebol Talatala had 16 points for KT-Ice Monsters, while Godoy, Cepriano and Nene Sibaya added 15 and 11, respectively.

Buddy's victory was spearheaded by Badong Eufre, who nailed five straight triples in the second period to set the tone for the rout. Tommy Andren topscored with 20, Roy Pedreso chipped in 13 and Francis Andren made 12 for Buddy's.

AMG Pawnshop, banking on Salvador Bonza's 25-point second half explosion, overcame a spirited stand by RG Purefoods, which was led by Jeffrey Caratao with 23 points RG Purefoods looked out-of-synch but nearly caught up with Summit late in the game by hitting a number of triples, including a buzzer beater by Arlan Lazaga. Yen Dolar made 17 points to lead Probac's win. Ren Ren Lacson came up with 15, while Wendell Fernandez chipped in 14. Juffer Alojado paced the Knights with 15 points. *CPT
