SSA sets alumni
homecoming lunch

The St. Scholatica's Bacolod Alumni Association Inc. yesterday announced the holding of its annual alumni homecoming lunch at the Maryville Hall in Bacolod City Saturday.

Hosting the activity this year is Batch 1982 led by Pilar Luzurriaga-Mendezona, a press release from SSA alumna Ginnette Dumancas said yesterday.

The honorees in the celebration are the Ruby Jubilarians of Batch 1966 headed by Patching Alunan-Puentevella and the Silver Jubilarians of Batch 1981 led by Maricel Monfort.

An election of new officers of the alumni association will also be held.

The highlights of the festivities are dance numbers from batches 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991 and 2006 and a raffle. The day will be capped by the Silver and Blue-ming, an SSA get-togther hosted by the Silver Jubilarians at 6 p.m. at Café Breizh, the press release added.*

6 Negrense
artists get awards

Six Negrense artists were conferred the "Gawad Pasidungong" award at the launching of the Visayas Arts Month celebration on the theme "Panggas: Sowing the Bounties of the Arts", at the Barangay Hall of the Negros Occidental Administration Center in Bacolod City yesterday, a Capitol press release said.

Awarded were Antonio Tejado for visual arts, director Peque Gallaga - cinema, Rene Hinojales - dance, Rudy Reveche - dramatic arts, Caesar Pacalioga - music, and Lucia Lizares for architecture and allied arts.

The award was given by the provincial government through the Public Affairs Division of the Office of Gov. Joseph Marañon, in cooperation of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Provincial Youth Development Council.

Acting Gov. Isidro Zayco emphasized the need to recognize the achievements of Negrenses in the press release.

The celebration included the artists' forum where the awardees gave talks on the "State of the Arts and Culture in Negros vis-a-vis the National Arts and Culture Movement" in the afternoon, followed by a cultural night.

Dance performances were rendered by the ETCS Children's Choir, Kabataang Silay Rondalla, Kagayon Dance Troupe, Kaanyag Pilipinas Dance Company and Teatro Amorseco.

Present at the activity were Board Member Elmero Layumas, provincial legal officer and chief of staff of Marañon, Jose Ma. Valencia, provincial administrator Enrique Pinongan, and the Capitol department and office heads, the press release added.*
