buy-bust operation

A resident of Barangay Looc, Dumaguete City, Oriental Negros, was arrested by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in a buy-bust operation at a housing project in Cadawinonan, in the city.

Nabbed for alleged possession of six sachets of shabu was Antonio Elentorio, 25, married, of Zone 4, Barangay Looc, Dumaguete.

Also confiscated from Elentorio were three P100 bills in buy-bust money and P440 believed to be proceeds of his illegal activity.

Elentorio admitted having engaged in selling shabu but said it was on an on-and-off basis. He denied that the operatives recovered the buy-bust money from his possession.

PDEA chief, Senior Police Officer 1 Boy Sanchez, meanwhile, said that after one drug peddler is arrested, he or she is replaced by three others.

Meanwhile, a search conducted against a suspected drug peddler in Oracion Subvision, Barangay Looc, Dumaguete yielded negative results.

The subject of the search was Adrian Amigo, son of the late Uldrick Amigo who was gunned down last year by unidentified men in front of his residence.

The raiding team headed by Chief Insp. Manuel Hidalgo, Dumaguete police chief, and his deputy, Insp. Teddy Faburada conducted the operation after gathering extensive information about the activities of the suspect.

The police believe that the suspects may have been tipped about the arrival of the raiding team on Saturday. The search was conducted in the presence of a lawyer, said to be a relative of the suspect

Meanwhile, a resident of Barangay McKinley in Guihulngan was jailed for allegedly cultivating marijuana plants.

Arrested for violating provisions of Section 16, of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 was Lowie Coleta Estenzo.

Uprooted by the Guihulngan PNP operatives were nine marijuana plants in flowerpots, and dried marijuana stalks.

Police crime laboratory forensic chemist, Insp. Josephine Llena, confirmed that it was marijuana plants that the police had uprooted.

Under Section 16 of the anti-drug law, cultivation of marijuana plants carries a minimum penalty of life imprisonment and maximum penalty of death, if the suspect is proven guilty.*JG
