Man dies in road mishap

A 45-year-old man died on the spot Tuesday afternoon when the motorcycle he was riding was sideswiped by a pick-up van in what police investigators deduced as a hit-and-run case in Brgy. Panambalon, Bais City, Oriental Negros.

As of press time yesterday, there was no word on whether the van or its driver has been identified and arrested following the mishap along the highway in Panambalon, Bais City.

Police identified the victim as Ricardo Tambating, married of Brgy. San Jose, Manjuyod town.

Traffic investigators said that before the accident, Tambating and the driver of the motorcycle, Jupiter Aninon, were speeding along the national highway after attending a wedding of the victim's relative in Tanjay City.

On reaching Panambalon, Aninon reportedly signaled that he would make a U-turn into a curved portion of the road.

The pick-up van, however, went on and hit the motorcycle. The motorists were hurled into the ground. The van did not stop and instead, sped away from the crash site.

Passers-by who saw the incident, helped bring the victims to the Bais District Hospital, but by then Tambating was already dead.*
