Athletes' Training starts Feb. 8

The Negros Occidental athletics teams that will compete in the Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association Meet will start their training on Feb. 8 at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

The elementary and high school boys and girls' athletics squads of Negros will be accommodated at Panaad before they see action in the regional meet in Capiz next month, Manuel De Oro, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Sports and Development Office, said.

The other teams like softball, baseball and football will begin practicing at the Panaad pitch on Feb. 28, he said, adding that some athletes will also train at the Paglaum Sports Complex.

Class '66 sets
pace in bowlfest

Class '66 emerged as top qualifier in the premiere Class A division, of the ongoing 2005 Negros Occidental High School Inter-Class Alumni Bowling Tournament at the Super Lanes of the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

The first round topnotcher led by Edgar Baldonado, hauled 15,284 pinfalls to lead the 10-team pack in bracket A, while Class '73 Globelines spearheaded by Jose Butch Villagracia is in close second with 15,230.

The Tess Aplaon's group, Class '65 took the driver seat in bracket B. The championship rounds is scheduled to start on Saturday, Feb.4.

Negrenses book 1-2 finish
in Dinagyang darts event

Negrenses Rommel Bagotayao and Melvin Adeva booked a 1-2 finish in the open singles competitions of the Dinagyang Open 2006 Darts Invitational Tournament at the Spotter's Bar and Recreation Center in Iloilo City recently.

Bagotayao, who hails from Silay City, prevailed over Adeva of Bacolod City in the finals to snatch the singles' crown, but Adeva also got a championship in open doubles blind draw division together with Ilonggo Alaric Peņaranda.

The Adeva-Peņaranda tandem beat Iloilo darters Roger Arellano and Noy Garingalao in the championship match to take the crown in the doubles division.
